Google Penguin Update. Penguin 3 Released, Impacts 0.3% Of English-Language Queries

Our friend from Twitter, and the head of web-spam team at Google- Matt Cutts has recently announced on Twitter that Google’s Penguin 3.0 or call it the ‘data-refresh’ update was rolled out on October 5 ’2012. Now since this is the third Penguin update since the launch of Penguin algo updates in April ’2012, we are calling it Penguin 3.0. The present Penguin data-refresh algorithm update will affect search queries across multiple languages. More information is available, right after the jump.

Matt Cutts like every time used Twitter to confirm the current Penguin data-refresh update and so far is the third data-refresh update this year. The main motive of these algorithm changes remain the same, i.e to reward high quality content producing websites in Google’s search, and at the same time force low quality content websites from either not appearing or ranking far behind in search engine. While this update is said to have impacted multiple languages, we are specifically considering English search queries at this time. Google’s Penguin 3.0 is said to have impacted ~0.3% of the search in English language while Spanish impact is ~0.4% and Italian impact is ~0.3% of queries.

Here’s a record of past Google Penguin updates in 2012.

  • Penguin 1: April 24, 2012 (3.1%)
  • Penguin 2: May 26, 2012 (less than 0.1%)
  • Penguin 3: Oct. 5, 2012 (0.3%)

  1. I think it is great that google has released the Penguin Update. It keeps a lot of "black hat" spammers from ruining the prosperous community that is SEO. Sure, it might force a company to switch the way it operates, but in the end it will be for the good of everyone.
